New Feature: Livejournal cross-posting

I've set up the site to handle Livejournal cross-posting for any users who want to configure it.

To configure it:
Log into the site
Click the My Account link in the left menu
Click the Edit tab
Fill out the Livejournal Cross-Posting section of your profile. (You can configure several cool settings here)

Then when authoring Blog Posts or News Articles*, you will see an option to cross-post. Check that box, and the post will be published under the author's LiveJournal account as well.

Hope this makes it easier for some of you to get your posts to multiple audiences.

- - -
*I will be testing other Content Types later today. You may be able to cross-post Audio and Video posts soon, too.

Missing Andy

I miss Andy. Not the real Andy*, but the virtual one. The one that would have told us all about the SAG awards nominations, so that we could already have firm opinions and weird stories known only by those in the know.

How am I supposed to appear to be a know-it-all if I don't have the original know-it-all giving us the inside loop?

* I miss the real Andy too, but he's probably been to Atlanta more than I have in the last two months. So that that more my fault. Is the real Andy going to be at Festivus?

DigiBeer

A few of us have been tossing around the idea of working on a homebrew recipe.

The idea is to work on perfecting a recipe and have it bottled and labeled for DragonCon 2009.

Thoughts? What beer type would make the best DigiTribe DragonCon Seasonal Beer?

Wrapping the film

Well, tonight should be the final night of filming for the $1000 Feature Film.
It's been a long hard ride and as much as we had planned to document much of the process as it was happening - we managed to do the exact opposite and go radio silent for several months.

I only hope that we can make up for that now that the stress of running a weekend production isn't dominating our every thought.

To those that are coming to set tonight - I look forward to seeing you.
To our friends watching and waiting - I hope to have something to share with you soon.

Website email problem - solved

I discovered a problem today that was causing the site to have intermittent problems sending emails.
This means that there were sometimes problems with the Private Message feature of a user's profile... and also that some new users never received their password to log into the site.

This issue has now been resolved and you have no problems receiving emails sent from the site anymore.

Here are the things I have bought or secured so far. Please comment here with the things you are planning on bringing to the con. I want to make sure don't all show up with a handle of vodka and nothing else.

Dirt on footage

Hey guys,
I made a boo-boo in filming my latest (and first so I can chalk it up to that thing called learning) independent feature, and in a few moving scenes there is either dirt or water on the ens/footage. I have attached a picture of the worst scene with dirt in it (there are only two, and in a beach scene, sand is supposed to be on the lens):

I have tried many different filters and many different techniques to try to erase this stuff. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas for me.

Looking for a lighting Kit

I saw a lighting topic, but I felt like making my own (that one didn't pertain to my question exactly)...

I'm looking for a good 3-point lighting kit. I'm shooting a film in June, and I'm looking for something that is cheap and good. I've been looking at things like this, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/shop/2247/Tungsten_Lights_Kits.html, and I really don't know a lot about lighting. So, please... inform me :-)

Likeness Rights

Probably not of interest to those of you who don't know them, but the cover of this novel...

...looks so much like a very young Jason Norred and Joey the Mad Scientist that they might have to sue over likeness rights. Which one of them is John, why will he die at the end, and will it be at the jaws of the crocolich that has them in its sights?

YouTube in High-resolution

http://www.baekdal.com/notes/personal/youtube-high-video-quality/

YouTube has long been the place to watch low-quality videos. While most other video sites allow you to see videos in high-quality, YouTube has stubbornly stuck with its abysmal 320x240. But there is actually a way to boost the quality.

All you need to do is to add "&fmt=6" to the end of the URL.

Here is an example:

    * Indiana Jones Trailer in normal YouTube Quality (320x240 - 320kb/s)
* Indiana Jones in higher quality (480x360 - 665kb/s)

While this is a neat trick - only a few of the videos also come in a high-res version. In my test only about 10% of the videos could be viewed in higher quality (I think they are testing it).

But, if the higher quality version setting doesn't work, you can always get the iPod version by adding "&fmt=18" to the URL. This will force YouTube to get the MP4 instead of the low-quality FLV version.

    * Indiana Jones in iPod Quality (480x360 - 602 kb/s)

I tried this with Statement, but I think the "iPod version" doesn't look as good. I found this on Baekal.com.
