Fark.TV: Don't quit your day job, if you have one

In the pantheon of colossal time-wasters, the wildly popular oddball news site Fark.com has few peers. Since 1999, whenever a father uses a stun gun on his infant, or an amusing scam takes over gullible Internet users, or something bizarre happens in Florida (Fark has a whole category just for Sunshine State news), or a new picture of a topless woman is posted anywhere online, you can be assured that within seconds the news will appear at Fark or related sites and be commented upon by scores of snarky readers.

Recently some regulars on Fark.com launched Fark TV, a site with originally produced comedy bits. A horrid idea, it turns out. Remember when TheSmokingGun.com did “Smoking Gun TV”? This is worse.

The ultra-ironic Fark sensibility is absent from these unfunny videos, which include lame parodies of “Cops,” “Kill Bill” and “Da Vinci Code” (what, no “Brokeback Mountain” spoof?). The camera work is unsophisticated, even by YouTube standards.

And now, thanks to Fark TV, the Fark community is starting to learn what it’s like to be the ridiculee instead of the ridiculer. “Question: Is there anything two bloggers, a webmaster, a software developer and a wedding videographer can’t do?” one heckler recently posted to the site. “Answer: Three minutes of comedy.”
