Hey,
As a filmmaker that is almost at the self-distribution stage, I am realizing that my dream of a Digital DVD is far above my or my crews coding talents. Anyhow, I was always going to include the option of a physical copy of the film. But it has become apparent that making the copies by hand will be too much work.
So I ask, oh humble filmlords, do any of you know anyone that has tried the concept of a digital DVD, where one pays for the DVD online and then has it downloaded upon them?

The best deal out there right now is CreateSpace (formally "CustomFlix").
They set you up for digital downloads via Amazon.Com's UNBOX.
There is no set-up fee, but they take a hefty royalty off of your sales (50%). They also use Microsoft DRM, so there are some serious Anti-Unbox people out there. Still, its the best deal for getting your digital content available at 0 startup cost to you.
You'll also be happy to find that they do Print-On-Demand DVD duplication, so if you are willing to sacrifice the % of each sale that you receive - you can have them handle your DVD burning for little to no startup cost as well.
