I Am Legend - the ending

I am generally not the type of guy who gives adaptive movies a lot of crap for not sticking to every little detail of a book that its based on. In fact, I encourage films to stretch out and find their own voice. They are, after all, a different medium - and can't/shouldn't be a perfect replica of their literary counterpart.

However, I AM a story guy. While the difference in movies, books, comics, etc are vast - the one thing they have in common is that they are vehicles for The Story. It is what is important, beyond all other things.

The recent, "I Am Legend" film, FUCKED UP one of the best stories of all time. The theatrical ending ripped the soul out of the story - and left behind a mediocre monster movie. (Much in the same way "I, Robot" royally fucked up another great story by turning it into a sub-par action flick.)

Now I find out that they actually FILMED an ending to the movie that restored a lot of the spirit of the story... AND THEY CHOSE TO NOT USE IT.
Fucking unbelievable. Watch for yourself. SPOLIERS AHEAD.

Yeah, I haven't actually read I Am Legend, but I certainly like this alternate ending.
