Hardware is the study of mechanical and electronic objects: how to operate, build, and repair them. You may ignore the effects of malfunction tabs up to your Hardware bonus (e.g., if you have Hardware +2, you do not take malfunctions when tearing off malfunction tabs 1 and 2). You may also, in the presence of a GM or narrator, operate, build, and repair mechanical and electronic items.

Management is the study of human nature: how to manage underlings, suck up to the Computer, and pay attention to what others are doing. You may use Management as a defensive skill to counter another character that is attempting to use Stealth to make an escape (if there are multiple individuals attempting to stop an escape attempt, the defender is the individual with the highest Management total). In the presence of the Computer, you may also use your Management for bootlicking.

Software is the study of programmed systems: how to code, hack, and enter data into them. Software training also means skill in running the numbers; you do not take a malfunction on ties up to your Software bonus (e.g., if you have Software +2, you do not tear off a malfunction tab when you tie on a throw of 0, 1, or 2). In the presence of a GM or Narrator you may use Software to hack and reprogram bots and terminals.

Stealth is the study of subterfuge: how to blend into a crowd, bypass security, and remain generally unnoticed. Using Stealth, you may attempt to make an escape from a conflict situation (if escaping from multiple individuals, challenge the player admitting to the highest Management total). If successful, you may cover your badge for one minute and appear to be a generic Infrared citizen for the duration. When required by a GM or narrator, you can also make Stealth challenges to bypass security systems.

Violence is the study of combat: how to fight with weapons and unarmed, destroy things, and operate weaponry systems. You may use Violence to make attack challenges with any weapon or unarmed. If your modified Violence total exceeds your opponent’s defense total by 3 or more, the target is killed (unless he or she is a mutant or on certain drugs). If your modified Violence total exceeds your opponent’s defense total by 1 or 2, the target takes a cumulative –1 penalty to all trait totals for the remainder of the conflict situation. Death or cumulative penalties take effect after all participants have taken an aggressive action. In the presence of a GM or Narrator, you may also use Violence to destroy items or barriers.

Wetware is the study of sciences; how to create, analyze, and administer pharmaceuticals, bio-tech, and radiation. You may ignore the effects of removing side effect tabs up to your Wetware bonus (just as a citizen skilled in Hardware ignores malfunctions). If there is a GM available to adjudicate the results, you may use Wetware to create, analyze, and administer pharmaceuticals, bio-tech, and radiation effects.
