What is Paranoia?
August 1st, 2007 by Jason Norred
Paranoia is a dark, comedic role-playing game set in a dystopian future where all of known society is run by an all-powerful, albeit slightly deranged, computer system. Players take on the personas of “Troubleshooters,” an elite subset of citizens who, in service to the Computer, are tasked to seek out trouble… and shoot it.
Where other RPGs encourage players to work together towards a common goal, Paranoia encourages backstabbing, double-crossing, and bare-faced lying as all of the players try to further their own personal goals while trying to not offend the complex logic circuits of a paranoid, trigger happy, and malfunctioning Computer.
Imagine a world designed by Kafka, Stalin, Orwell, Huxley, Sartre and the Marx Brothers...
Paranoia is a roleplaying game set in a darkly humorous future. In Paranoia, a well-meaning but deranged computer desperately protects the citizens of an underground warren from all sorts of real and imagined enemies.
You play one of the Computer's elite agents. Your job is to search out and destroy the enemies of the Computer.
Your worst fear is that the Computer will discover that you are one of these enemies.
Paranoia: A lighthearted game of terror, death, bureaucracies, mad scientists, mutants, dangerous weapons, and insane robots, which encourages players to lie, to cheat, and backstab each other at every turn.
Is that fun?
